2023 Projects of Distinction

Daniels Construction recognized for excellence in construction

Daniels Construction was recently recognized for excellence in construction by Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Wisconsin.

The Projects of Distinction Awards recognizes construction projects that are built on merit and are judged by a panel of construction experts based on several criteria, including quality, owner satisfaction, unusual challenges, and safety.

Daniels Construction is thrilled to announce that three (3) of our 2023 projects received a Silver Projects of Distinction Award by ABC Wisconsin for the work on the projects.

Award Winners

The Fharmacy Public House

SILVER AWARD

General Contractor, Commercial, Under $2 Million

Lake Mills, WI
Owner: Tyranena Brewing Company
Designer: Assemblage Architects

The Fharmacy Public House is the second location for Tyranena Brewing Company located in downtown Lake Mills. The original building was home for many years to a pharmacy and converted into a brew pub and more. Daniels Construction reinforced the structural integrity of the building before moving forward with the renovation and addition. The first floor was renovated into a brewpub with building addition to make way for a full kitchen and walk in cooler/freezer. The pub-like atmosphere features a large stage for performance, new wood floor, stamped embossed copper ceilings, copper bar, custom wood doors/windows and wood accents, exposed original brick walls with exposed ductwork, new large windows, and tap tower with 24 beers. Additionally, the second-floor event space and a rooftop patio overlooking idyllic Commons Park. Complete your time in the outdoor beer garden on Lake Mills’ quintessential small town Main Street.

Edgewood High School Alumni Hall

SILVER AWARD
General Contractor, Institutional, Under $5 Million
Madison, WI
Owner: Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart
Designer: BWBR

Daniels Construction completed the Edgewood High School renovation and addition while the building was occupied. The renovation was to remove the existing 1967 Commons and replace with a new “Alumni Hall.” The Alumni Hall is a contemporary, attractive, energy efficient two-story open and airy space that is used by students, parents, alumni, and friends. The project commenced after the 2022 school year and remained under construction during the 2022-2023 school year. Due to construction occurring during the academic year, the school needed to shift the way students and visitors entered the building, how lunch was served and consumed as well as relocating students’ free periods. Daily and weekly coordination meetings were held to provide updates on the baseline schedule. There were several shifting conditions from both the school and construction side that required abundant communication. With limited space, many times crews needed to coordinate shifts and equipment to remain on schedule. The 1967 Commons building was demolished, but the existing floor was scheduled to remain. In the fall of 2022, there were significant rains that occurred over the weekends. This was beneficial to the pace of construction during the week; however, it required additional resources and attention for cleanup efforts.

Stone horse green

SILVER AWARD
General Contractor, Public Works/Environmental
Middleton, WI
Owner: City of Madison
Designer: Saiki Design

Stone Horse Green is a beautiful new event space location in the heart of Middleton which serves as a linkage to the history of the first livery stable which features six heated stone horses that line the west end and serve as seating and play area for children. Additional features include a bandshell with four public bathrooms, a push-to-start fireplace, and a projector screen with immersive speakers and sound system. Further, there is an interactive public art piece “Barn Lights” that supports local artists and serves as lighting for the area at night. The location is ADA accessible with sidewalks throughout the park adjacent to limestone raised planter beds that also allow for additional seating space. The project site was a very small area in downtown Middleton, with heavy traffic. During construction, all streets surrounding the project remained open to local businesses. The project was under budget and on schedule; with a concert event taking place at the end of completion.
